Have yall seen thoes new netbook?
Are they worth the $300 just to have to only get on the internet? Cause I have a regular computer that I do everything on like word, paint, pictures. I think it would be handy cause I want a laptop but I only want one so I can be anywhere and be online, so instead of $1000 or more for a laptop, $300 is more in my budget but... I dont know... Does anyone have a netbook? or know anyone with one?

Netbooks are great, light, portable, and some have a big enough hard drive to actually replace your laptop.
I have had a netbook, macbook, and just a plain laptop all within 6 months. I HATE the macbook business wise. It's not efficient at all for me. I ended up putting windows XP on the macbook because I couldn't get any work done with the macbook. Macbook is just for fun and artsy kind of stuff but I'm not willing to pay over $1000 just for the Mac OS, because the specs inside the macbook are worth $500. A netbook is great to have when you are traveling and just need easy access to your files and the internet. There are so many brands you can choose from which are cheap and affordable. I could get all my work done on a netbook, I suggest getting on that has a 10 inch screen. |

I have never known anything else besides the PC (with a short stint in 1992 with a B/W mac in the college comp lab... which I hated). I am a computer programmer by trade and everything I know is on the PC. I don't do alot of graphics and I like the control between apps that I can get on PC platforms.
That being said, from a user standpoint, trying to get work done on my PCs is commonly a battle with items that are running in the background that slow performance, locking up when I am trying to finish something, slow reboots (in the neighborhood of 10-15 min!), and the always enduring "blue screen of death". I push my equipment pretty hard and have to load apps on it from time-to-time, so I have the free virus/firewall stuff from my ISP, but I suspect that is a big part of my problem. IMHO, the only way around all my problems, if you are going to own a PC, is to find a local computer shop and talk to them about a service contract to keep you humming. Many will do that remotely, so you don't have to pay for a site-visit. I have not done that yet, but am seriously thinking about it. I wonder if Apple computers can get my work done just as well without the slow-downs. I am afraid to do it though... I have stacks of software that I use for my day-to-day business including MS Office stuff - would I have to replace all that with Mac version? ($$$$?). I also go to sites like tucows.com all the time to get small apps to help me out with stuff, I would have to figure out where I could find comparable apps and may have to pay more for them. I also feel like I can upgrade my PC myself and put in a new card or memory or whatever and I don't know anything about the Mac and fear that I will be lost, spend more time trying to figure it out, and end up frustrated or told I can't do something. I accept I may be 'all-wet' on the topic of Macs so feel free to correct me (all you Mac lovers!). I never tried Macs because I am afraid it would endup a useless machine that I can't work with freely to do what I do. Nothing personal. Scott
